On April 3, 2023, the implementation of Law 4850/2021 began, which, among other things, determines the procedure for granting state registration documents to a "Vehicle of Historical Interest". This Law separates vehicles of historical interest into: a) those that have already been classified before 3/4/2023 by previous provisions and b) those that are classified as of historical interest after 3/4/2023.

For vehicles that have already been classified before 3/4/2023, only the proof (e.g. FIVA Identity Card) from which the previous classification of the vehicle is derived is required. A necessary condition is the possession of the correct ownership titles, the maintenance of the already certified condition of the vehicle and the absence of deviations from the recorded data in the granted certification. Such a vehicle must pass a technical inspection (KTEO) and then, a registration permit is granted with a validity period of two (2) years.

For vehicles classified after 3/4/2023, a Certificate of Classification is required. A prerequisite is the possession of the correct title deeds, the maintenance of the vehicle in good condition and the absence of deviations from the original characteristics of the vehicle. Such a vehicle must pass a technical inspection (KTEO) and then, a registration permit is issued with a validity period of five (5) years.

Procedure for issuing a Certificate of Characterization

  •  Completion and submission of the Application for a Certificate of Characterization
  •  Inspection by a Technical Superintendent of FH FILPA, which can be carried out through any FH FILPA Member Association.
  •  Submission of the relevant accompanying title deed
  •  Payment of the relevant fee

Owners of vehicles of historical interest must, before the expiration of the license (2-year or 5-year validity), be provided with a Certificate of Compliance valid for five (5) years.

If the vehicle is stationary and the plates have been deposited with the Tax Authorities, then you will need a recent Certificate of Immobility from the Tax Authorities.

In the case of a vehicle cleared for historical interest, you must have with you the customs clearance documents and the original foreign license or at least a photocopy thereof.
